MY BIG IDEA
I want to take this time to look into the reuse and recycling phase of clothing production, centered around hand knitting and reclaimed yarns.
By recreating fashionable pieces out of materials that have been sources from old unloved ‘out of date’ clothes.
I would like to look into undoing the initial design and purpose of the old garment and unlock a second lease of life.
In deconstructing old garments I will only be using my own energy to ‘reproduce’ knittable yarn.
From this initial ‘new’ source I want to move it on a stage and recreate garments that not only use less resources and material, but also, still dramatically alter the ‘look’ of the wearer.
By noting down all my patterning experiments and garment ideas I hope to re-engage with the wearer and encourage them to keep a garment for longer as it can be adapted for many different uses, and they will also have insider knowledge of exactly how it was made.
If they wish to they can recreate their own and evolve their pieces learning new skills whilst keeping up with inevitable fast changing fashion trends.
I have taken a really old jumper (like the one in the picture!) and unravelled it...
The design adventure begins...
